On Friday, September 10th, STD sponsored an English department orientation event. Dr. Jo Carney spoke, as did many other English faculty. Representatives from English-related organizations, such as The Siren, The Lion’s Eye and INK, were on hand to answer questions. - Graduate School in English Information Session by Dr. Felicia Steele
Wednesday October 6, 2004 at 8:30pm in Bliss 148, Dr. Felicia Steele gave an information session about graduate schools in English and related fields. She helped interested students plan a timetable to facilitate their application process, discuss the formation of writing groups, and give other tips on the process. - English Teaching Social
On Wednesday, Nov. 4th at 3:30 p.m., STD hosted an event for ENGT majors to ask questions and get advice from those who are currently teaching. - Freedom Road

On Wednesday, December 3 at 2:00-5:00 pm in the Social Science Building atrium, Sigma Tau Delta sponsored a reading of Walt Whitman’s “Song of Myself.” Then students had the opportunity to share their own Whitman parodies. - Chevy’s Fundraiser
On Thursday, Nov. 20th 2003, people came out to Chevy’s to enjoy some great Mexican food. In addition, 20% of their bills went to support Sigma Tau Delta. - “Web Workshop for Wordsmiths” by Craig Kapp
On Wednesday, October 29 from 12:30 -2:00pm, Craig Kapp (the college technology guru) talked about web design and led a hands-on introduction to creating a web page. The workshop was open to English faculty and students and was geared to the web skills of literary types. - English Teaching Information Sessionby Dr. Emily Meixner
On Friday October 24 from 3:30pm-5:00pm the new English Education Professor, Dr. Emily Meixner discussed the transformed courses in terms of the English Education major, answered questions students had about New jersey certification, and provided information about the ‘No Child Left Behind Act.’ This session also was a chance for English Education majors to meet and get to know Dr. Meixner. - All-Day Reading of the Odyssey hosted by Dr. Carney
On Wednesday, October 22 from 5am-8am in Bliss Lounge and 8am-5pm, between Holman Hall and Roscoe L. West Library, Dr. Carney hosted an all-day Odyssey reading extravaganza in celebration of the Odyssey Art Exhibit opening in The Holman Art Gallery. Students signed up to read their favorite book from the Odyssey or listened throughout the day. On Thursdays at 7:00pm in Bliss 152, Sigma Tau Delta met to watch films based on a variety of Shakespeare plays. We watched Midsummer Night’s Dream (9/18), Romeo and Juliet (9/25), Richard III (9/30), Scotland, Pa (10/9), Henry V (10/16), Titus (10/23), Dead Again, a Special Halloween showing, (10/30), Twelfth Night (11/06), Hamlet (11/20), and Complete Works by the Reduced Shakespeare Company (12/4).

- Tea with Jane Austen
Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m. in Bliss 114
In the Spring 2003 semester we sponsored a “Tea with Jane Austen” series, where we enjoyed tea, cookies, and a portion of a movie based on one of Jane Austen’s novels. Following the movie, we discussed its relation to Austen’s novel and caught up with each other. All members of the TCNJ community were welcome. Tea and treats were served free of charge.
- Panel Discussion on Publishing
On Wednesday, February 5 at 12:30 pm in Bliss 234, the Creative Writing Committee sponsored a panel discussion on publishing with Peter Steinberg, literary agent, and Mark Drew and Mindy Wilson, both of whom are literary editors. On February 20 at 5:00pm in Bliss Hall 146, Dr. Felicia Steele presented a symposium on research methods and issues in English departments. This event was open to the entire TCNJ community free of charge. - “The Lord of the Rings and the Middle Ages” by Ed James
On March 4 at 7:30 pm in the Science Complex , room 101, Sigma Tau Delta and the History Club co-sponsored a talk on J.R.R. Tolkien, author of The Lord of the Rings trilogy by Ed James, a medieval scholar from Britain. - Short Story Reading by Professor Cathy Day
On April 17 at 7:30pm in the Business Building Lounge Cathy Day read a story from her forthcoming book of short stories, The Circus in Winter, recently accepted at Harcourt Press. She also read Wallace Porter Sees the Elephant, which was selected as one of the 100 Distinguished short stories of 2002, in the 2002 edition of Best American Short Stories. Refreshments were served. - Royal Shakespeare Company’s As You Like It Trip
On Saturday April 26, STD sponsored an all day bus trip to the Kennedy Center to see the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of As You Like It. STD arrived in time for a backstage tour and lunch before the 2:30 matinee.

- Fundraiser at Chevy’s
Sigma Tau Delta held a fundraiser at Chevy’s on Route 1 on Tuesday, September 10. 20% of the bill for all customers who mentioned STD was donated to our organization. This event was open to the general public. - Dodge Poetry Festival
The Creative Writing committee of Sigma Tau Delta encouraged interested TCNJ students to attend the Dodge Poetry Festival on Sunday, September 22. Chris Ludwig transported interested TCNJ students to the event. This event was open to the entire TCNJ community. - “Web Workshop for Wordsmiths” by Criag Kapp
Sigma Tau Delta sponsored a “Web Workshop for Wordsmiths” on Wednesday, October 30 from 1-3 pm in Bliss 31. Craig Kapp (the college technology guru) talked about web design and led a hands-on introduction to creating a web page. This workshop was open only to English faculty and students and was geared to the web skills of us literary types. Refreshments were served. Registration was held online.

- Lecture by Professor Robert Fagles of Princeton University
In conjunction with Classical Studies, the School of Culture and Society, the Department of English, and the General Education Program at TCNJ, Sigma Tau Delta sponsored a lecture by Professor Robert Fagles of Princeton University on Tuesday, March 26, at 4:00 p.m. in the Music Building Concert Hall. Professor Fagles is a world renowned translator of classical texts, and read from The Odyssey, discussed the epic, and entertained questions.
